The Heidelberg Innovation Forum on 17 April 2012 will offer company founders and high-tech researchers in the field of cloud computing a prime opportunity to meet potential investors and application partners. The closing date for applications from anyone interested in presenting their business ideas or research findings to investors and industry partners at this event is 5 December. An expert jury will select the best submissions from among all the applicants.
New technologies and business ideas associated with the innovative field of cloud computing will be the focus of the Heidelberg Innovation Forum on 17 April 2012. This will be the 11th time that MFG Innovation Agency for ICT and Media and the European Media Laboratory have brought together high-tech researchers, developers and company founders with potential cooperation partners and investors.
Interested applicants still have until 5 December to submit proposals outlining their cloud-based products, services and research findings. Cloud computing refers to a new operating model in which both software and hardware – such as processing power, data storage and applications – are provided, managed and billed dynamically over the Internet. As well as offering scope for new service models, the cloud-based approach is also driving the development of new services and technologies in data security, mobile applications and energy consumption.
Applicants with the most impressive submissions will be given the opportunity to showcase their IT-focused business ideas and technology concepts in brief presentations at the Heidelberg Innovation Forum. An expert jury will also award a prize for the best business idea at the event. Submitting an entry and participating in the event are both free of charge for the selected applicants.
The Heidelberg Innovation Forum has been committed to supporting entrepreneurship and technology transfer since 2005. It aims to support the foundation of new companies and technology alliances by facilitating access to investors and industry contacts. Financing in particular is a critical success factor for emerging companies and technologies. The format has certainly proved successful: some 350 innovators and developers from 10 countries have presented their ideas at previous events. Over half of them were able to make valuable contacts with investors and decision makers from industry, and around 20 percent of these contacts resulted in the successful creation of new companies, development alliances or licensing opportunities. This represents a success rate of 10 percent. The Heidelberg Innovation Forum was recently nominated for the 2011 Diesel Medal by the German Institute for Invention in recognition of its achievements.
